Andi Adam Faturahman, Jakarta – Spokesperson of the ruling party Gerindra, Sugiat Santoso, stated that the survey released by the Center of Economic and Law Studies (CELIOS) and the Shadow Cabinet regarding the performance of President Prabowo Subianto's two-year administration is overly dramatized.
The survey results indicate that 75 percent of respondents feel stressed by government policies.
He claimed that the survey was intentionally designed to create panic among the public. "President Prabowo Subianto was not elected by the people to please observers," Sugiat said when contacted by Tempo via WhatsApp message on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
According to Sugiat, Prabowo was chosen by the people to implement changes that would impact the welfare of society. In terms of fiscal and economic context, for example, the government's policies are solely aimed at safeguarding the long-term financial foundation.
Sugiat added that the CELIOS and Shadow Cabinet survey results, which highlighted the weakening of civil liberties, are also inaccurate. He asserted that during the Prabowo-Gibran era, democracy continues to thrive and the government remains open to various criticisms.
"Our government is not authoritarian. One example is that this survey can be freely disseminated without restrictions," said the Deputy Chair of Commission XIII of the House of Representatives.
Previously, CELIOS and the Shadow Cabinet released a survey marking two years of the Prabowo-Gibran administration. Executive Director of CELIOS, Bhima Yudhistira Adhinegara, stated that indicators of psychological pressure were a key focus in evaluating the two-year performance of the Red and White Cabinet.
The high public stress, Bhima said, correlates with the increasing economic burden on households. The survey found that 82 percent of respondents complained about the government's heavy tax and levy burdens.
The survey also noted that 78 percent of respondents consider the soaring prices of essential goods to be an urgent issue. Meanwhile, 53 percent of the public assessed that their family economic situation has worsened compared to the previous year.
According to Bhima, disappointment with the economic situation and national leadership style has implications for the erosion of political support. As a result, the survey notes that 55 percent of Prabowo's voters in the 2024 General Election stated they will not vote for the Gerindra Party Chairman in the upcoming election.
The CELIOS and Shadow Cabinet survey involved 1,142 respondents from all provinces in Indonesia through Meta Ads with a non-probability sampling method, accompanied by weighting methods to align with the population aged over 17 years.
