Muhammad Aulia Rahman, Jakarta – Stste prosecutors have seized documents and electronic evidence during searches of the home of former Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar and several other locations as part of an investigation into alleged corruption in the governance of the palm oil plantation and industry sector.
The seizures were carried out by investigators from the Attorney General's Office's Special Crimes Unit, which is probing suspected irregularities in the management and regulation of oil palm plantations and downstream palm oil industries.
"There are documents and electronic evidence," Director of Investigation Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi told reporters at the Attorney General's Office in Jakarta on Friday.
Syarief said the materials were taken because investigators believe they are relevant to the case and will be analyzed to strengthen the evidentiary basis of the investigation.
Searches of Siti Nurbaya's residence and several other locations were conducted over two days, on Wednesday and Thursday, he added.
Prosecutors have not yet detailed the nature of Siti Nurbaya's alleged involvement in the case. Syarief said only that the investigation relates to decisions and actions taken during her tenure as environment and forestry minister.
The period under investigation spans from 2015 to 2024, covering much of her time in office.
"The investigation concerns the governance of palm oil plantations and the palm oil industry," Syarief said.
Siti Nurbaya, a senior political figure who served as environment and forestry minister under former President Joko Widodo, has not publicly commented on the searches. Prosecutors have also not announced any suspects in the case.
