Dayat, Jakarta – Indonesia's Anti-Corruption Court on Thursday sentenced former Deputy Manpower Minister Immanuel Ebenezer Gerungan to four years and six months in prison for his role in a corruption scheme involving the issuance of occupational safety and health certificates.

A panel of judges at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court found Ebenezer, widely known by his nickname "Noel," guilty of corruption related to the processing of workplace safety and health (K3) certification permits at the Manpower Ministry.

In addition to the prison term, the court imposed a fine of Rp 200 million ($11,000). The sentence was lighter than the five-year prison term sought by prosecutors from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Prosecutors had argued that Ebenezer abused his position by extorting payments in the K3 certification process, violating Indonesia's anti-corruption law. They also sought a Rp 250 million fine and demanded that he repay Rp 3.4 billion in illicit gains, with an additional two-year jail term if the restitution was not paid.

Following the verdict, Ebenezer said through his manager that he accepted the court's decision and would not appeal.

"I fully accept what the judges have decided and take responsibility for what I have done," he said in a statement delivered after the hearing.

The KPK arrested Ebenezer in a sting operation in August 2025 along with 10 other suspects. Investigators alleged that he received Rp 3 billion in December 2024 as part of a broader Rp 5.5 billion kickback scheme that operated between 2021 and 2024 through intermediaries.

According to the anti-graft agency, the payments were linked to the issuance of occupational safety and health certificates required for businesses and industrial operations under the Manpower Ministry.
