Reza Hery Pamungkas, Jakarta – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has begun supervising a high-profile corruption investigation being handled by the Attorney General's Office (AGO) after prosecutors formally requested oversight, amid concerns over a potential conflict of interest.

The request came after the corruption probe involving former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes Febrie Adriansyah was transferred from the National Police to the AGO, prompting criticism from some legal experts because prosecutors are investigating one of their own former senior officials.

KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto said on Friday that the anti-graft agency had assigned a team from its Coordination and Supervision Directorate to begin initial discussions with prosecutors.

"The coordination and supervision team has begun coordinating as a follow-up to the supervision request submitted by the Attorney General's Office," Setyo told reporters in Jakarta.

He said the process remains at an early stage, with more substantive discussions to follow once procedures required under KPK regulations have been completed.

Setyo stressed that the KPK's role is limited to oversight and coordination. The agency cannot question witnesses or suspects or direct the investigation, which remains fully under the authority of the Attorney General's Office.

Earlier on Friday, Deputy Attorney General for Internal Supervision Rudi Margono said Febrie remains an active prosecutor and continues to receive his salary because there has been no final court ruling against him.

"That's correct, because there has been no court ruling," Rudi told reporters when asked whether Febrie was still being paid.

He added that Febrie continues to report for duty at the Attorney General's Office, although he declined to disclose his current assignment.

Febrie stepped down as deputy attorney general earlier this month after police named him a corruption suspect following the discovery of 74 kilograms of gold bullion and millions of dollars in cash hidden in a concealed cabinet at one of his homes in Bogor.

Although another suspect in the same case was immediately detained, Febrie has remained at liberty.

He was scheduled to undergo a second round of questioning on Friday after missing an earlier summons, citing health reasons. Rudi said investigators could compel his attendance under Indonesia's Criminal Procedure Code if he failed to appear without a valid reason.

The KPK said it hopes its supervisory role will strengthen coordination among law enforcement agencies while enhancing transparency, accountability, and public confidence in Indonesia's anti-corruption efforts.
