Roy Adriansyah, Jakarta – A South Jakarta District Court judge on Thursday rejected former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes Febrie Adriansyah's challenge to a police search and seizure of assets in an ongoing corruption and money laundering investigation.

Febrie had argued that police seized personal belongings unrelated to the case and asked the court to declare the entire investigative process invalid.

Febrie was named a suspect in corruption and money laundering cases after police last month found 74 kilograms of gold bars and millions of dollars in cash during a search of one of his homes in Bogor.

He subsequently resigned from his position and was later suspended by the Attorney General's Office while in detention.

Judge Richard Edwin Basoeki ruled that there had been no serious procedural violations in the police investigation, including the search, asset seizures, overseas travel ban, and the decision to name Febrie a suspect.

The judge agreed with Febrie that personal items such as family photographs and private correspondence should not have been seized by investigators.

"However, that does not mean the entire search process – including the seizure of cash, gold, documents, transaction records, and other items that could reasonably be linked to the alleged corruption and money laundering – becomes unlawful," Richard said.

Febrie still has a separate pretrial motion pending before the court challenging the legality of his designation as a suspect.

A ruling on the second motion is scheduled for Friday, with the Attorney General becoming the respondent.
