Yustinus Paat, Jakarta – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) arrested Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed) Rector Akhmad Sodiq and several others in an operation conducted in Jakarta and Purwokerto, Central Java, on Thursday night.
"In the operation, the team detained 14 people – 12 in Purwokerto and two in Jakarta – on Thursday. One of those detained was the Unsoed rector," KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo said in a statement on Friday.
Budi said the anti-graft agency subsequently released five of the 14 people detained, while the remaining nine, including Akhmad, were taken to the KPK's Red and White Building in South Jakarta for intensive questioning.
"As of now, they are still being questioned at the KPK, nine people in total," Budi said.
He did not disclose details of the case under investigation. However, preliminary information indicates that the KPK is investigating alleged corruption involving Unsoed officials in the university's student admissions process.
Investigators also seized cash during the operation, although the KPK has yet to disclose the amount.
