Defara Dhanya Paramitha, Jakarta – Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has issued a strong appeal to Harun Masiku, a fugitive wanted in connection with a bribery case involving civil servants to secure a seat at the House of Representatives (DPR). Harun has been on the KPK's Most Wanted List (DPO) since January 17, 2020.

"We urge HM to surrender immediately," said KPK Investigation Director Asep Guntur Rahayu during a press conference at the KPK's Building in South Jakarta on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.

He also appealed to the public to report any information regarding Harun's whereabouts. "This will help us bring the case to a conclusion," Asep added.

Asep emphasized that Harun Masiku should not delay the ongoing bribery case, as it would only prolong the legal process.

Harun is a suspect in a bribery case involving Wahyu Setiawan (W), a former commissioner of the 2017-2022 General Elections Commission (KPU). Harun allegedly bribed Wahyu to secure a seat in the DPR from the PDIP Faction, replacing Nazarudin Kiemas who passed away in March 2019. However, Harun Masiku has consistently evaded KPK investigators and has remained on the DPO.

"Another suspect in his case, such as Mr. W, has already finished [his sentence] and is now free," Asep remarked.

Asep declined to provide details regarding the KPK's use of phone tapping to locate Harun Masiku. When asked about the seizure of PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto's phone, Asep stated that the KPK could not disclose any information at this time.

"We cannot confirm yet whether there's a connection or not, but rest assured that everything we do is related," he said.

Previously, KPK Deputy Chairman Johanis Tanak revealed that the KPK had tapped several phone numbers in their search for fugitive Harun Masiku. This information was shared during Tanak's interview for the KPK leadership candidates for the 2024-2029 period at the Ministry of State Secretariat.

"To be honest, we did employ phone tapping. We also obtained a WhatsApp number, based on the information we received," Tanak stated while answering questions from the panelists.
