Yustinus Paat, Jakarta – Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has seized 15 vehicles belonging to lawmaker Satori of the National Democratic Party (Nasdem) as part of a probe into alleged misuse of social funds from Bank Indonesia and the Financial Services Authority (OJK).
KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said on Tuesday that the vehicles were confiscated from multiple locations, including a car showroom, and are now secured in Cirebon, West Java. The seized assets include three Toyota Fortuners, two Mitsubishi Pajeros, one Toyota Camry, two Honda Brios, three Toyota Innovas, and one each of a Toyota Yaris, Mitsubishi Expander, Honda HRV, and Toyota Alphard.
"Investigators will continue to trace other assets suspected of being linked to or derived from this corruption case. These are important both for evidence and for asset recovery," Budi said in a statement.
Satori, along with Heri Gunawan, a lawmaker from the Gerindra Party, has been named a suspect in the scandal. Investigators allege the two legislators diverted funds originally earmarked for community development.
Heri is accused of receiving Rp 15.8 billion ($960,586), which he allegedly used for personal expenses, including property, land purchases, vehicles, and business ventures. Satori is suspected of benefiting from Rp 12.52 billion ($759,967), which he allegedly placed in deposits, bought land, constructed a car showroom, and purchased vehicles.
Both lawmakers are alleged to have sought the funds from Bank Indonesia and OJK under the pretext of building public facilities such as schools for their constituencies. Instead, investigators say, much of the money was diverted for personal enrichment.
