Alfitria Nefi Pratiwi, Jakarta – The Coordinating Minister for Food, Zulkifli Hasan, reported that about 30,000 hectares of fish ponds in Aceh were damaged due to Sumatra floods. "Not only in Pidie Jaya, which was reported, but there are about 30 thousand hectares in the entire Aceh," said Zulkifli, in a written statement on Friday, January 9, 2026.

Zulkifli made this statement while inspecting flood-affected fish farms in Meurah Dua district, Pidie Jaya Regency, Aceh, on Thursday, January 8, 2025. Zulkifli stated that the extent of pond damage varied from light to very severe. Consequently, more than 30,000 breeders suffered losses.

Based on details from the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, the flood damaged ponds in 16 regencies and cities in Aceh. Trenggono stated that, based on the identification results, about 300 hectares of ponds suffered very severe damage. "The rest are dominated by light to severe damage," he said.

According to the report from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, shrimp ponds are now level with the ground due to the mud carried by the flood. According to Trenggono, the North Aceh Regency was the area most affected. More than 10,000 hectares of ponds were damaged there. Bireun Regency followed with 4,900 hectares, and Aceh Tamiang followed with 3,400 hectares.

Trenggono stated that the damaged ponds were located in both inland and coastal areas and contained various fishery commodities, including shrimp, milkfish, snapper, grouper, catfish, tilapia, and carp.
