M. Faiz Zaki, Jakarta – Main Director of PT PLN (Persero) Darmawan Prasodjo said that the electricity recovery in three regencies in Aceh remains low. The mentioned areas are Central Aceh Regency, Bener Meriah Regency, and Gayo Lues Regency.
"For Central Aceh and Bener Meriah, our material evacuation is still conducted by air," he said in a joint meeting with the Indonesian Parliament, ministries, and institutions through a live YouTube broadcast on Tuesday, December 30, 2025.
Darmawan stated that the impact of the Sumatra floods on Aceh's electricity system is greater than the 2004 Aceh tsunami. At that time, there were 8 points of electrical system damage, while this time there are 442 points.
Darmawan said that 70.8 percent of villages in Central Aceh already have electricity, while the rest are still in the dark. In Bener Meriah, 80.41 percent of villages are already lit, and the rest are not. Then in Gayo Lues, 70 percent of villages are already lit, and the rest are not.
Darmawan mentioned that in Gayo Lues Regency, the route from Langsa to Kutacane to Blangkenjeren has started to open, so 210 PLN electric poles are on their way. "While for Aceh Tengah with Bener Meriah, the evacuation of 510 electric poles is still using Hercules aircraft," he said.
In addition to the electricity system, Darmawan said that although there are areas where recovery is fast, many homes of PLN customers are damaged. One example is in North Aceh Regency, where more than 80,000 homes are affected, with 13,000 units severely damaged, 20,000 units moderately damaged, and the rest slightly damaged.
Electricity repair in Aceh Utara is progressing quickly, but on the other hand, many residents' homes are damaged. In Aceh Tamiang, the evacuation route is running smoothly. Out of 209 villages, only seven are in the dark; the rest have light. "But the number of PLN customer homes affected is more than 38,000," he said.
Darmawan concluded that there are still other areas where electricity recovery is fast, but many PLN customer homes are also affected. This is influenced by the level of severity of the disaster that has occurred since the end of November.
Furthermore, in Bireun Regency, electricity has been restored to 607 out of 609 villages. Although only 2 villages are in the dark, more than 31,000 units are affected.
Then, in East Aceh Regency, 491 villages are already lit out of a total of 513 villages. The affected number is more than 11,000 homes.
In West Aceh Regency, there are 322 villages, and only 1 village that has not been lit again. "Here, the impact on homes is smaller than in others," said Darmawan.
Next, in Pidie Jaya Regency, Darmawan said, all 222 villages there have already regained electricity. However, more than 10,000 homes have been damaged, and some are still buried in mud.
