Aceh Tamiang – President Prabowo Subianto marked the Eid al-Fitr holiday in Aceh on Saturday, where he inspected temporary housing built for survivors of recent floods and landslides as part of ongoing reconstruction efforts in Sumatra.
In the morning, Prabowo performed Eid prayers in Aceh Tamiang regency before visiting a government-built housing site for disaster survivors. He was accompanied by Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Aceh Governor Muzakir Manaf.
"Alhamdulillah, we have arrived at Eid al-Fitr. I ask forgiveness for any mistakes, inward and outward," Prabowo said after the prayers. "May this year be a good year for all of us."
During the visit, the president entered one of the housing units to review facilities provided by the government and spoke directly with residents to understand their conditions and needs.
The government has constructed thousands of modest housing units for displaced residents through collaboration between state-owned enterprises and private-sector partners.
Indonesia is continuing large-scale reconstruction efforts across Sumatra following a series of devastating flash floods and landslides that began on Nov. 25, 2025. The disasters killed more than 1,000 people and displaced tens of thousands across Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra.
Authorities have linked the severity of the disasters not only to seasonal heavy rainfall but also to environmental degradation, including deforestation and the illegal conversion of forest land for plantations and mining.
