Antara, Jakarta – Raja Village in the Bendahara District of Aceh Tamiang was submerged again after a levee burst. Water overflowed and flooded local residential areas. "Our village is flooded again because the levee, which has not been repaired, burst," said a local youth figure, M. Daud, in Aceh Tamiang on Thursday, January 1, 2026.
M. Daud explained that the levee breach in Raja Village occurred on Thursday around 18:00 Western Indonesian Time (WIB). The floodwaters spread further by 21:00 WIB.
The broken levee is located on the road connecting the Bendahara and Seruway Districts. River water poured onto the streets and into residential zones that were already damaged by previous flash floods.
"Because the levee broke, Raja Village, where many people are still living in tents, was flooded once more," he said.
This new flood likely happened because of water moving from upstream areas following heavy rain in the mountains. M. Daud revealed that the flash floods on November 26, 2025, damaged many levees along the Bendahara District coast, and these remain unrepaired.
"Several levees on the Bendahara coast broke during the November 2025 floods, specifically in Raja, Lubuk Batil, and Marlempang," he said. "Today, we feel anxious whenever we hear of heavy rain upstream. Downstream villages could flood again because the river levees are already destroyed."
Selamat Village in the Tenggulun District also faced flooding on the night of Wednesday, December 31, 2025. This was caused by the overflow of the Gunung Pandan tourist area. However, the Village Head (Datok Penghulu) of Selamat, Suherman, stated the flood was brief and receded within a few hours.
"The water entered the village near the tower leading to Gunung Pandan. The flood was caused by heavy rain in the upper area. There were no casualties, and residents did not leave their homes; the water just passed through," said Suherman.
