Yustinus Patris Paat, Jakarta – Members of the House of Representatives (DPR) for the 2024-2029 term will no longer be provided with official residences. Secretary-General Indra Iskandar explained that the condition of many of these residences has deteriorated to the point that they are no longer habitable.

"Most of them are in quite poor condition," Indra said during a press conference at the DPR building in the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday. He invited the media to visit and examine the official residences in Kalibata, South Jakarta and Ulujami, West Jakarta, while discussing their current state.

Indra also noted that the DPR houses in Jakarta are no longer financially viable. The cost of maintaining these aging residences to ensure they are habitable would be substantial.

Consequently, the Secretary-General, along with DPR leadership and various factions, has decided to return the official residences to the state.

"In light of this situation, we are preparing various documents to submit to the Finance Ministry and the State Secretariat regarding the return of these state assets," Indra said.

Moving forward, DPR members will receive housing allowances in place of the official residences. These allowances will be distributed monthly along with the members' salaries. Indra mentioned that the specific amount of the housing allowance is still under review.

A member of the House can take home a monthly income consisting of a salary and various allowances of at least Rp 54 million ($3.469).

A total of 580 DPR members and 152 members of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) for the 2024-2029 period were sworn in on Tuesday at the parliament complex in Senayan, Jakarta.
