No Cabinet reshuffle this month: Pratikno

Jakarta Post - January 17, 2023

Jakarta – State Secretary Pratikno on Monday downplayed speculation that President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo would reshuffle his Cabinet in the coming days, saying that such a move would not be on the President's agenda for this month.

"There's no such plan," Pratikno told reporters on Monday at the Presidential Palace.

Pratikno also declined to give more details on whether President Jokowi would announce a Cabinet shake-up in February. "I don't know about that," the senior aide to Jokowi said, quoted by Kompas.

Early in January speculation was rife that Jokowi may soon reshuffle his Cabinet, with some political sources betting on a last major realignment of his government to complete programs ahead of the elections to be held in 2024.

Analysts expected that a reshuffle was imminent, especially after the NasDem Party, one of seven political parties in the ruling coalition, announced it would back former Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan in the 2024 presidential election – a politician seen as a potential rival to Jokowi's successor.

Separately, Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Mahfud MD also said he had received no briefing regarding a possible Cabinet reshuffle.

"There's no such talk. You all got the leaks, but they all turned out to be false, right," Mahfud told reporters.
