Egi Adyatama, Jakarta – President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo in the international human rights day commemoration on Friday proclaimed that the government is staying committed to upholding and solving severe human rights violations.
"It will put forth principles of justice for the victims and those suspected to be perpetrators of severe human rights violations," the President said in his speech at the State Palace on December 10.
He explained that the Attorney General has already taken important steps to conduct investigations on cases of human rights violations in the past. Those include cases from Paniai, Papua in 2014.
"Based on the investigation report from the National Commission on Human Rights [Komnas HAM], the attorney general's office continues to hold a general investigation which guarantees that justice will be materialized," said the President.
Komnas HAM chairperson Ahmad Taufan Damanik said the commission, together with the government, is in constant search for a solution to bring justice for the victims. He said the AGO's decision to form an investigation team looking into the human rights violation in Paniai, Papua, as a step forward.
