Jakarta – Over 1.2 million cars left the capital in the week leading up to Idul Fitri, according to state-owned toll road operator Jasa Marga.
"PT Jasa Marga recorded a total of 1,216,859 vehicles leaving Jakarta and heading east, west, and south between May 29 and June 4," Jasa Marga spokesperson Irra Susiyanti said in a statement on Wednesday.
"This is a 26 percent increase from the normal daily traffic average of 963,065 vehicles."
She said that 57 percent of the vehicles went east, 25 percent went west and 18 percent south. The Cikampek toll gate was the busiest for vehicles going to West, Central and East Java.
"The main Cikampek toll road [was used by] 477,280 vehicles, a 194.49 percent increase from the normal daily traffic average of 162,071 vehicles," Irra said.
She added that the total volume of exodus traffic had met 94 percent of the company's prediction of 1.29 million cars.
"So there is only 6 percent or 79,000 vehicles left from the number of vehicles predicted to leave Jakarta," she said. (kmt)
