Dian Rahma Fika, Jakarta – The Indonesian Ministry of Health will perform drug tests on road users during the 2025 Eid homecoming season, the ministry spokesperson Widyawati confirmed, as a preventive measure against this year's annual surge in travel.

Widyawati, familiarly known as Wiwid, said the tests will be performed at departure points from March 24 to April 8, 2025. "Blood pressure and blood sugar level checks, alcohol, and drug tests for drivers," she told Tempo on Monday, March 24, 2025.

The ministry also ran free health checks for travelers from March 10 to 22, of which the results will be rechecked simultaneously with the drug tests.

To ensure a smooth Eid homecoming period this year, Wiwid said the Ministry of Health also disseminates information through the ministry's Media Communication Information and Education, as well as ramping up supervision on "fast food management places and public facilities."

For information, the government predicts that the peak of the Eid homecoming flow this year will occur on March 26-28, whereas the peak of return travel will take place on April 6-7.

Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono or AHY, said that President Prabowo Subianto has instructed the Red and White Cabinet members to prepare as best as possible for the Eid homecoming season.

AHY stated that the government has prepared various policies to ensure the nationwide travel is safe, smooth, and enjoyable. The Ministry of Public Works has prepared heavy equipment and materials to repair damaged roads.

"The Ministry of Transportation will certainly ensure that multimodal transportation, both land, sea, air, and railway, is unobstructed, especially at several congestion-prone routes," said AHY.
