Ricki Putra Harahap, Jakarta – The National Awakening Party (PKB) will reunite with President-Elect Prabowo Subianto after their relationship took a roller-coaster ride in the last election.
PKB Chairman Muhaimin Iskandar confirmed on Sunday that the party will not take an opposition stance against Prabowo, who is set to assume the presidency in October.
"PKB has already reconciled with Prabowo's Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) and established a coalition," Muhaimin said in Jakarta. "Both parties share the common goals of achieving economic prosperity based on the Constitution."
Before the presidential election, PKB and Gerindra had formed a coalition, but Muhaimin led PKB to join a rival alliance after Prabowo chose a different running mate. This unexpected move resulted in Muhaimin becoming the vice-presidential candidate alongside Anies Baswedan, but their ticket was defeated by Prabowo, who ran with Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
Despite the intense election rivalry and his initial disappointment over Prabowo's choice of running mate, Muhaimin now emphasizes PKB's "moral obligation" to support the incoming administration.
Muhaimin also expressed full support for Prabowo's initiative to provide free meals for school-age children, a program he had criticized during the campaign.
"Since PKB has decided to collaborate with Gerindra and Mr. Prabowo, we fully support all his programs, including the free meals initiative," Muhaimin stated.
