Teguh Adi Prasetyo, Jakarta – Following their defeat in the presidential race, Ganjar Pranowo and his running mate, Mohammad Mahfud MD, announced on Monday their intentions to pursue divergent political trajectories, formalizing the dissolution of their campaign team.

Ganjar expressed his commitment to upholding the political agenda of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), the party that nominated him for the presidency. Meanwhile, Mahfud disclosed his plans to engage in civil society initiatives.

"As a member of a political party, I will continue my involvement in political activities," Ganjar told reporters at an internal gathering in Menteng, Central Jakarta.

Despite receiving the fewest votes in the three-way presidential contest held on February 14, Ganjar remains steadfast in his party allegiance. The election concluded with Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto securing an outright victory with 58 percent of the vote.

Having resigned from his position as chief security and political affairs minister to contest the election, Mahfud said his lack of affiliation with a political party would not hinder his political engagement.

The law professor asserted his commitment to contributing meaningfully to the nation's development through civil society channels, including involvement in non-profit organizations, advocacy groups, or independent initiatives.

"I will persist in my endeavors. Politics encompasses a broad spectrum, allowing participation through political parties or civil movements. While civil society is distinct from political parties, its actions carry political significance. Journalists, too, play a role in influencing policy-making processes," Mahfud said.
