Wijayanti Putri, Solo – Gibran Rakabuming Raka, the running mate of president-elect Prabowo Subianto, revealed on Thursday that multiple political parties outside of his coalition had expressed interest in joining the future government.
The mayor of Solo said his camp is open to collaboration with former rivals from the February 14 general elections for national unity and solid governance.
"We are moving in that direction, with more than one party expressing interest in joining us. However, I cannot provide further information at the moment," Gibran said in the Central Java town of Solo.
"I mentioned earlier that we will reach out to everyone," he added.
Gibran is the eldest son of President Joko Widodo, and many analysts have suggested that his appointment as the running mate in October helped boost Prabowo's popularity ahead of the election.
The coalition behind Prabowo's presidential bid involved four incumbent parties: Prabowo's Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra), the Golkar Party, the National Mandate Party (PAN), and the Democratic Party.
There are also four smaller parties supporting their candidacies, including the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), the Crescent Star Party (PBB), the Gelora Party, and the Garuda Party.
Prabowo was officially declared the elected president by the General Election Commission (KPU) on Wednesday, winning 58.58 percent of the vote.
