Apriadi Gunawan – North Sumatra Governor Edy Rahmayadi offered his apology to the province's residents for including names of dead and retired civil servants during a mass officiating ceremony on Feb. 21.

"It's not the subordinate's mistake, the governor is in the wrong here, and for that, I apologize," Edy said after another mass officiating ceremony on Thursday.

On Feb. 21, the governor officiated 911 civil servants for echelon III and IV ranks, which are typically the rank of officials with positions of heads of division and heads of subdivisions, respectively.

However, the ceremony included the names of one civil servant who had passed and two who had retired.

Separately, Safruddin, the province's head for the regional human resource agency, admitted that he had not thoroughly checked the names, which were all still listed on the employment record system.

"We didn't have any information about the dead civil servant until after the officiating. We even heard it [first] from the media," Safruddin said.

He said the mistake happened because the administration failed to renew employment data. "I have ordered for the renewal," Safruddin said. (dre)
