Eka Yudha Saputra, Jakarta – Thousands of students from Trisakti and Esa Unggul Universities arrived in front of the House of Representatives building on Jalan Gatot Subroto, Central Jakarta, this afternoon, Friday, June 19, 2026.
Their arrival followed a crowd from the Islamic Students Association (HMI) and Mercubuana University, who showed up earlier at the protest site.
In their blue university blazers, the students marched along Gatot Subroto street heading to the parliament complex, singing protest songs while lining up in a 'fortress' formation.
The students arrived at the parliament complex at around 04:00 p.m. local time.
Upon arriving at the protest site, the joint student protesters began delivering speeches, touching on civilian supremacy and demanding the military "return to the barracks."
Prior to heading to the DPR building, Trisakti University's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Arief Rizquna, explained that the protest was not spontaneous, but rather the result of consolidation and preparation that had been carried out over the past few days.
"We have been preparing for approximately two days, starting from consolidation, inventorying issues, and how the culmination of public anger could then birth a movement," said Arief when met before the protest.
The students raise three demands during today's protest: national economic and political recovery, weeding out incompetency in state officials, and the restoration of civilian supremacy.
He believes that the plethora of problems in the country cannot be resolved partially. Therefore, the demands are classified into three major issues considered most urgent.
