Vedro Imanuel Girsang, Jakarta – Police personnel intercepted several civilians who were heading towards the Parliament (DPR/MPR) building in Senayan, Central Jakarta. This action was taken in relation to the protest by the United Pati Society Alliance (AMPB) on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
Based on Tempo's observations around the demonstration site, interceptions were conducted at several points, one of which was in the flyover area of Gerbang Pemuda. Several uniformed and plainclothes officers were seen stopping the protesters and checking them.
The police stated that not all protesters who arrived at the protest site were inspected. Only individuals suspected by the authorities were stopped and had their belongings examined. "It's just our instinct," said one of the officers on duty.
According to the officer, the inspection aims to ensure that no dangerous items are brought into the demonstration area. He assured that if the inspection results prove to be safe, the protesters would be allowed to continue. "It's not prohibited," he added.
The Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Commissioner General Reynold E.P. Hutagalung, stated that a total of 18,504 joint personnel were deployed to secure the protest. "The security measures are implemented with a humanistic approach," said Reynold on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
These thousands of personnel will be deployed to several points. The police divided the demonstration location into six security zones, with the central zone located directly in front of the DPR/MPR building.
Reynold stated that all the personnel deployed to the field would not be equipped with firearms or sharp weapons. The police will prioritize persuasive efforts towards the demonstrators instead of using excessive force.
To avoid congestion due to the protest, the police will also implement traffic engineering. "Follow the instructions of the officers in the field and use alternative routes," said Reynold in his written statement.
The AMPB had previously announced that they would still stage a protest on August 27, 2026. The protest will proceed with two main demands despite numerous interventions and intimidation towards the participants.
The AMPB Coordinator, Supriyono, or commonly known as Botok, stated a focus on the demand for the enactment of the Asset Forfeiture Bill and the implementation of the death penalty for corruptors. "We are focused on these two demands, there are no demands to oust Prabowo and Gibran," said Botok last Wednesday.
