Andi Adam Faturahman, Jakarta – The Student Executive Board of Bung Karno University (BEM UBK) has accepted an invitation to mediate with Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. Today, on June 15, 2026, BEM UBK and student alliances from Jakarta and its surrounding areas staged a "Reshape Indonesia" protest on Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, Central Jakarta.
Based on Tempo's observation at the location, there were approximately 15 student representatives who responded to Gibran's invitation. They entered the Vice Presidential Palace on Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan at around 5:25 p.m. local time.
"We will emphasize the importance of the government's program substance on the lives of the people," said M. Aldi Maludin, the Chair of BEM UBK Faculty of Law, who was one of the representatives.
In front of Gibran, he said, the students will convey all the demands raised today, such as the cessation of the free nutritious meal program (MBG) and the Red and White Village Cooperative.
The demands came because the implementation of both programs is deemed chaotic, rushed, and lacking strategic studies.
One tangible example of the chaotic nature of the MBG program is the corruption reveal involving the leaders of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). "We do not wish for oligarchy in the government policies, especially those that make the people suffer," he said.
During today's protest, BEM UBK and the students alliances raised six demands to President Prabowo Subianto's government.
These six demands include temporarily halting and evaluating the free nutritious meal (MBG) project and the Red-and-White Village Cooperative; reviewing the Police Law.
Subsequently, stopping militarism and upholding civilian supremacy; urging the government to take strategic measures to maintain the stability of the rupiah exchange rate and national economic resilience; demanding that the government provide inclusive, quality, and affordable education for the entire Indonesian population; and reviewing oil price hikes as it burdens the people.
As of the publication of this article, the closed-door mediation between Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka and the student representatives remains ongoing.
