Eka Yudha Saputra, Jakarta – The Executive Board of the University of Indonesia's Student Senate (BEM UI) will continue to hold the 'Towards Indonesia Bankrupt' action at Bundaran HI, Central Jakarta, for a follow-up protest. BEM UI Chair Yatalathof Ma'shum Imawan has confirmed the follow-up action at Bundaran HI (HI Roundabout).

According to him, this follow-up protest is in line with the commitment made in the previous statement before the dispersal of the June 12th demonstration. "In accordance with the commitment in the pre-dissolution statement," said Athof when contacted on Sunday, June 14, 2026.

Not only a follow-up action, BEM UI will invite more participants and other campuses to build a larger mass. However, the campuses to be invited to join are still awaiting further consolidation.

On June 12, 2026, a mass from the BEM UI alliance ended the demonstration in front of Thamrin Nine Ballroom, Central Jakarta, Friday, June 12, 2026. The alliance was supposed to demonstrate at Bundaran HI. However, they were confronted by the Indonesian Military (TNI) and Police.

There are five demands that the Alliance will voice, namely stop the squandering of the state budget (APBN), lower the prices of basic needs and fuel, stop the free nutritious meal program (MBG), and the construction of the Merah Putih Village Cooperative.

Furthermore, the alliance demands an end to militarism in the civilian domain, and finally, demands that President Prabowo Subianto stop evading and acknowledge the government's mistakes.

After delivering speeches, the BEM UI Student Senate alliance issued a statement. In its statement, the alliance sees that the economy only grows on paper. However, the situation is different in the field. "Rice prices rise. Job opportunities are scarce," said a representative of the alliance.

According to the alliance, President Prabowo Subianto displays an arrogant, unaccountable, unsympathetic, and anti-people demeanor. They believe that the promise of a golden Indonesia actually leads to economic and democratic bankruptcy.

The Alliance also criticizes the TNI for escorting the action. According to the Alliance, the TNI should safeguard sovereignty. The Alliance declares that there will be a follow-up action. In one to two days, the Alliance will bring more mass.

The students who participated in the June 12th demonstration came from the BEM UI alliance (BEM UI and 15 Student Senate bodies of UI faculties), BEM KM IPB, BEM PNJ, BEM Pancasila University, BEM Gunadarma Alliance, FMN Pusat, FMN UI, Pembebasan, Semar UI.
