Dede Leni Mardianti, Jakarta – Andre Rosiade, a member of the Public Aspiration Body of the House of Representatives (DPR), said the institution still cannot guarantee that all public demands outlined in the 17+8 People's Demands movement will be fulfilled.

The 17+8 People's Demands summarize various pressures circulating on social media following the mass demonstrations on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

The government and the House were given a deadline of September 5, 2025, to meet the 17 short-term demands, while the remaining eight longer-term demands are to be fulfilled within one year.

As of Thursday noon, September 4, 2025, one day before the short-term deadline, Andre stated that the House had fulfilled two demands: the revocation of housing allowances for parliament members and a moratorium on official overseas visits.

However, Andre noted that other demands, such as passing the Asset Forfeiture Bill, establishing an independent investigation team, and ensuring budget and salary transparency, would require more time. He declined to provide further updates on ongoing parliamentary discussions.

"It's within the authority of the leadership. Let the leadership convey it later," said the Gerindra Party member.

Of the 17 demands due the next day, only three have been formally submitted to the House. These are:

  • Freezing salary or allowance increases for House members and halting new benefits, including retirement packages.
  • Publicizing budget transparency, including salaries, allowances, housing, and other facilities.
  • Urging the House Ethics Council to examine problematic members.

On Wednesday, September 3, 2025, three House leaders met with representatives of the Alliance of the Executive Body of Indonesian Students (BEM SI) and several other student organizations.

During the meeting, Deputy Speaker of DPR Sufmi Dasco Ahmad issued an apology and pledged comprehensive reforms. He also confirmed that housing allowances for parliament members had been discontinued as of August 31, 2025.

Andre emphasized that the House would continue to thoroughly evaluate all allowances for its members. "Specifically, the housing allowances have been discontinued since August 31, 2025," Dasco reiterated.
