Pribadi Wicaksono (Kontributor), Yogyakarta – The Special Region Government of Yogyakarta (DIY) has issued circular number 400.7.11/3884 in 2025 regarding alertness to the increase of Covid-19 cases.

The circular, which was established by the Governor of DIY on June 11, 2025, and signed by the Acting Secretary of DIY, Tri Saktiyana, is addressed to the heads of health services at the provincial and regency/city levels, as well as the heads of community health centers and directors of hospitals throughout DIY.

This circular was issued after one resident in Yogyakarta was found to be positive for the Covid-19 virus at the end of May. The finding was based on the examination of four samples with Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) suspicions at Danurejan 2 Community Health Center, which serves as a sentinel community health center.

"The circular was issued to raise awareness of the increase in cases Covid-19 and to take the necessary measures to address this issue," said the Acting Secretary of DIY, Tri Saktiyana, on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.

This circular instructs all health services at the provincial and regency/city levels to actively monitor and verify ILI, SARI, pneumonia, and Covid-19 case trends through routine reporting in the Early Warning and Response System (EWARS).

In the event of an increase in extraordinary cases or outbreaks, the relevant parties mentioned in the circular must report within 24 hours using the Event-Based Surveillance (EBS) report in the EWARS application.

"We also request that epidemiological investigations be conducted if there is an increase in cases of either Covid-19 or other respiratory infections," he said.

In addition, stakeholders are also instructed to conduct risk mapping and provide recommendations for Covid-19.

"The Health Services at the regency/city level also need to prepare health facilities to handle Covid-19 cases that require treatment in accordance with the established guidelines," said Saktiyana.

Covid-19 alertness campaign

Yogyakarta has also started a health campaign to raise public awareness of the need to be alert to the threat of Covid-19. The campaign includes implementing Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS), washing hands with running water and using soap or hand sanitizer, and wearing masks for sick individuals or when in crowded places.

"If residents are experiencing symptoms of respiratory infections and have a history of contact with risk factors, please promptly visit health facilities," he said.

Saktiyana reports that health service facilities in DIY are using an integrated referral system to carry out referrals for patients with Covid-19.

Hospitals must also update the availability and occupancy of their isolation and Covid-19 beds daily.

Through this circular, the DIY Regional National Intelligence Agency is tasked with monitoring the development of issues related to the community's response to Covid-19. Meanwhile, the Yogyakarta Health Quarantine Agency is responsible for supervising and preventing the transmission of the virus at entry points.

"We request that the referral laboratories for examining Covid-19 suspect specimens from DIY Health Service Facilities are always ready," he said.

Mild symptoms

Emma Rahmi Aryani, the Head of the Yogyakarta City Health Office, previously revealed that a Yogyakarta resident who tested positive for Covid-19 at the end of May was in good condition and only showed mild symptoms. They have also traced the contacts of the patient, who has now recovered.

"This case is the first finding of a Covid-19 case in the city of Yogyakarta in 2025," said Emma.

Although only one case has been detected, the Yogyakarta City Health Office stated that they have instructed all health service facilities to remain alert and provide optimal service to handle patients suspected of having Covid-19.

"All health services, from community health centers to hospitals, must respond promptly when there is a suspected case of Covid-19," she said.
