Jakarta – The United Development Party (PPP) was officially ousted from the House of Representatives for the first time since the party's founding after failing to meet the threshold in the last legislative election whose results were certified on Sunday.

The Muslim-based party is only 0.13 percentage points from the minimum 4 percent of the popular votes to win a House seat from the February 14 election, according to the General Election Commission (KPU).

The party received 5.8 million votes, equivalent to 3.87 percent of the overall legitimate votes nationwide.

The certification of legislative election results was led by KPU Chairman Mochammad Afifuddin at the commission's headquarters in Jakarta after the Constitutional Court concluded marathon trials of dozens of election disputes in the past month.

Dispute settlements were followed by corrections and adjustments in provincial results but PPP's achievement remains below the 4 percent threshold.

The PPP is an incumbent party that has had representatives in the lower chamber of the parliament since its establishment in 1973.

The party was a merger of four Muslim-based parties including the Nahdlatul Ulama Party, the United Tarbiyah Islamiyah Party, the Indonesian Islamic Brotherhood Party (PSII), and the Indonesian Muslim Party (Parmusi).

It emphasizes Islamic values as the party's line and carries the Kaaba as the party symbol.

The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) won 25.38 million votes to win the most seats in the House, followed closely by the Golkar Party with 23.2 million votes.

The Great Indonesia Movement Party (Geridnra), whose founder Prabowo Subianto won the presidency in the simultaneous elections in February, received 20 million votes to rank third, followed by the National Awakening Party (PKB) with 16.1 million votes, the National Democratic Party (Nasdem) with 14.66 million votes, the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) with 12.78 million votes, the Democratic Party with 11.28 million votes, and the National Mandate Party (PAN) with 10.98 million votes.

All eight parties will continue to have representation in the House.
