KPU approves 204.8 million registered voters for 2024 elections

Maria Gabrielle, Jakarta – The General Election Commission, or KPU, approved on Sunday the list of 204.8 million voters for the Indonesian colossal elections when they will elect the president, mayors, regents, governors, and parliament members at all levels in the same year.

Never before in the country's history did voters elect leaders and lawmakers in the same year. The most-awaited contest will be the presidential election scheduled for February.

"The voters from here and abroad registered in the list include 102,218,503 men and 102,588,719 women, bringing the total number of voters to 204,807,222," KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy'ari said after the conclusion of the KPU plenary session in Jakarta.

According to KPU data, the number of voters living in foreign countries stands at 1.75 million.

Among all 38 provinces, West Java has the highest number of registered voters, with 35.7 million individuals who will cast their ballots across over 140,000 polling booths.

East Java follows closely with 31.4 million voters, while Central Java has 28.3 million registered voters. North Sumatra and Banten complete the top five provinces with 10.85 million and 8.8 million voters, respectively, according to KPU Commissioner Betty Epsilon Idroos.

On the other hand, the provinces with the smallest number of registered voters are South Papua (367,269), West Papua (385,465), Southwest Papua (440,826), North Kalimantan (504,252), and Papua (727,835).
