Govt to revise Job Creation Law following MK judicial review

Tempo - November 29, 2021

Francisca Christy Rosana, Jakarta – Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said Monday the government will work together with the House of Representatives (DPR) to revise the Job Creation Law (UU Cipta Kerja) following the latest judicial review from the Constitutional Court (MK).

The Omnibus Law on Job Creation was found to be unconstitutional by the MK and the government was ordered to fix the issues within the next two years.

"The government's next step is to send a notice to House of Representatives (DPR) leaders and ask them to provide law revisions into the national priority legislations (Prolegnas)," said the minister in a virtual press conference on Monday, November 29.

Airlangga Hartarto said the government has discussed the Constitutional Court verdict with President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, and that the Job Creation Act's implementation across a number of sectors have boosted investments by 7.8 percent with investment realizations amounting to Rp659 trillion and 912,402 job openings from Q1-Q3 of this year.

The Investment Ministry issued 379,501 business permits from August 4-October 31, which mostly comprised 357,893 micro business permits or 94.42 percent.
