Jean Bisay, Jayapura – The International Women's Day this year was special for Efi Paulin Numberi, not only because the world celebrated women but also because that day, on Monday, March 8, 2021, she began her duty as the head of Biak Numfor Prosecutor's Office in Papua Land, or internationally known as West Papua.

Numberi, born in Serui in Yapen Islands in Papua, is the first native Papuan woman to hold a leadership position in a District Prosecutor's Office (Kajari) in West Papua.

On March 8, she was sworn in along with the head of prosecutor's office in Nabire, the deputy head of High Prosecutor's Office in Papua, the assistant intelligence and the head of administrative affairs of Papua High Prosecutor's Office. The head of Papua High Prosecutor's Office, Nikolaus Kondomo, led the sworn-in ceremony.

Kondomo said he was proud to see his colleague, Numberi, get promoted as the head of Biak Numfor Prosecutor's Office. He said Numberi had shown a capacity and experience as a good leader.

"Congratulations to all the officials who are sworn-in today. Mrs. Efi Numberi was the head of Legal Communication Section in Papua High Prosecutor's Office, before she got promoted to being Coordinator of West Papua High Prosecutor's Office. She is now the head of Biak Numfor Prosecutor's Office. This is the proof of the government's attention to native Papuans. We are proud because of her capability," he said.

Kondomo said the promotion was part of a regular reshuffle as an attempt to refresh human resources. He said he hoped the officials could adapt well in their new positions and workplace and serve their duties with integrity and professionalism.

Numberi said she appreciated the Attorney General and leadership in Papua High Prosecutor's Office that gave her the trust to lead Biak Numfor Prosecutor's Office.

She said she would prioritize public service, prevention programs, and case monitoring. "My colleagues and I will definitely uphold professionalism in serving the public," she said.

Papuan People Council (MRP) said they appreciated the decision to promote Numberi. MRP deemed the promotion as proof that the government paid attention to native Papuans' human development. It is also proof that native Papuans have the capacity to lead.

MRP councillor Roberth Wanggai, who was present in the sworn-in ceremony, said Number's promotion was an evidence that native Papuans could lead in many sectors.
