Andita Rahma, Jakarta – The National Police's counterterrorism detachment unit Densus 88 announced Friday the arrests of 32 suspected terrorists affiliated with the East Indonesia Mujahidin (MIT) group throughout 2020.
National Police (Polri) spokesman, Insp. Gen. Argo Yuwono said the dozens of suspected terrorists were linked to the group as financiers.
"[They] acted as financiers and support members who entered the region of Poso, Central Sulawesi," he stated in a written statement on December 4. "They also hailed from Jakarta, Sumatra, and other regions."
Argo explained the East Indonesia Mujahidin had also been financially backed by a terrorist network based in South Philippines.
Currently, the joint military (TNI) and police squad dubbed the "Tinombala Task Force" are hunting down the terrorist group's leader, Ali Kolara, after Indonesian authorities believe they were behind the vicious killings of four innocent people in Lembontonga village in Sigi regency.
