Antara, Jakarta – An 18-year-old high school student with the initials Mu or Am was arrested by Densus 88 Antiterror Squad and the South Sulawesi Regional Police in Gowa Regency on Saturday, May 24, 2025, on suspicion of involvement in terrorism. The arrest took place on SD Daeng Emba Street, Samata Village, Somba Opu District.
The head of the neighborhood unit where Mu resides, Nasir Daeng Nai, said the arrest occurred around 5:30 p.m. local time. "He was apprehended while buying a gallon of water. Only he was taken away, his motorcycle was not," Nasir said.
Mu is a third-grade high school student. He teaches at the Rumah Tahfidz Alquran (Quran Memorization House) in the Palangga area, Gowa, on a daily basis. "He lives here but teaches in Palangga. I don't know about his other activities," said Nasir.
Mu's biological mother, SK, confirmed the arrest. She said her son was taken into custody when he returned from buying a gallon of water. "He doesn't work, only teaches at the memorization house," she said at her residence.
However, SK does not know the exact location where her son teaches. To her knowledge, there are several branches of the memorization house. "I don't remember all the branches," she said.
When her son was arrested, SK was not at the location. She only learned about the information from her youngest child and the surrounding residents.
SK is not sure if her son is involved in terrorist activities. The reason is that Mu regularly performs religious duties and rarely leaves the house except for specific purposes. "If not asked to, he doesn't go out. He also usually prays at the nearby mosque," she said.
As of Saturday night, the South Sulawesi Regional Police Public Relations Bureau Chief, Commissioner Didik Supranoto, said they had not received any reports regarding the arrest. "I haven't monitored it yet," Didik said when contacted.
