Muhammad Aulia, Jakarta – Counterterrorism unit Densus 88 has identified 110 children, aged 10 to 18, allegedly recruited by terrorist networks across 23 provinces, authorities said Tuesday. The recruitment is now under investigation by law enforcement.
Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, head of public relations at the National Police, told a press conference at the Criminal Investigation Division (Bareskrim) in Jakarta that several suspects had recently been arrested in connection with the recruitment of minors. Those detained include FW alias YT (47), LM (23), PP alias BMS (37), MSPO (18), and JJS alias BS (19).
"They allegedly recruited and influenced children to become radicalized, join terrorist groups, and carry out attacks," Trunoyudo said.
The police said the recruitment process reportedly exploited digital platforms, including social media, online games, and messaging applications. Authorities are also taking preventive measures to stop further radicalization of minors.
Densus 88 has recommended four key measures to address the issue: restricting and monitoring social media use among minors, forming an integrated cross-ministry team for early detection and prevention, developing standard operating procedures for stakeholders to enable rapid response, and raising public awareness about online recruitment risks.
"Polri is committed to protecting Indonesia's children, alongside all relevant ministries and agencies," Trunoyudo added.
