Jakarta – Members of Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Commission B overseeing finance have asked that their names be engraved on a monument after the second phase of the MRT concludes.

During a recent hearing on the capital's 2020 draft budget priorities and ceiling (KUA-PPAS), Commission B councillor Wahyu said he wanted city-owned transportation company PT MRT Jakarta to ensure the monumental inscription if the proposed capital injection (PMD) received the DPRD's approval.

PT MRT Jakarta proposed an allocation of Rp 2.4 trillion (US$171.3 million) in the 2020 KUA-PPAS for the development of MRT Phase 2, which will connect the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle in Central Jakarta to Kota in West Jakarta.

"We suggest [PT MRT Jakarta] prepares a monument engraved with the names of the commission members who approved the MRT budget once it is approved," Wahyu said as quoted by kompas.com.

Wahyu said the inscription would be made on what he referred to as real inscribed stone, unlike a gravestone. "This will be our pride, our history," he said.

Responding to the legislative council's request, PT MRT Jakarta president director William Sabandar said he noted the suggestion so that everyone who participated in the MRT construction would be remembered.

The MRT Phase 2 project is expected to be completed by 2024. The project will require a Rp 22.5 trillion (US$15.7 billion) loan from Japan, given through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). (dpk)
