Antara & Nur Yasmin, Jakarta – MRT Jakarta, the operator of the capital's first underground and overground metro system, said the Jakarta MRT's second line, from the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle to Kota Tua, will pass some historical landmarks, including the Dutch-built Jakarta Kota train station.

The new line will stretch from the Bundaran Hotel Indonesia Station to the still-to-be-built Jakarta Kota Station. Total travel time on the 8.3-kilometer track will be 20 minutes.

"We will integrate them [the MRT line with the railway line] at the Jakarta Kota station. Some of the stations on this line will be built near historical landmarks such as Monas [the National Monument], Harmoni and Kota Tua [Jakarta's Old Town]," MRT Jakarta managing director William Sabandar said on Wednesday.

The development will also pass important government buildings. William said the government has been informed about all upcoming construction works.

MRT Jakarta has kicked off the procurement process for this second phase of development, which was marked by the signing of an integrity pact by the directors and the project's contractors.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by officials from the Corruption Eradication Commission, Finance and Development Supervisory Agency and National Public Procurement Agency.

There are six construction contracts in the current development: for electric power work at the Monas station, for railway systems and track works, for rolling stock as well as for line construction at Monas, Mangga Besar and Jakarta Kota.

The estimated budget for this phase of Jakarta MRT's development is Rp 22.5 billion ($1.6 million). The projected completion date is 2024.
