Lani Diana Wijaya, Jakarta – Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) deputy speaker Mohamad Taufik considered the city's light rail transit or LRT Jakarta a failed project. He assessed it based on three indicators, namely time, function, and budget efficiency.
Taufik reiterated that many parties determined to utilize LRT as one of the transportation modes to cater to 2018 Asian Games athletes. Yet, urban transportation has yet to be operated commercially. This what Taufik said the project failed in time.
"Asian Games has passed for almost a year, but LRT has yet to be operated. A product that cannot be used means not ready [for operation]," said Taufik in DPRD Jakarta building, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, June 12.
Therefore, Gerindra politician questioned the current function of LRT following the end of the multisport event.
Additionally, LRT served a short travel route of Kelapa Gading-Velodrome at 5.1 kilometers that Taufik doubted could alleviate congestion in the area.
"Third, it's a failure in the form of efficiency. It costs Rp5.8 trillion for 5.1 kilometers. I suggest Jakarta administration or the Governor's Team for Accelerated Development (TGUPP) be reported to KPK that this is a failed project," Taufik said.
To date, Jakarta provincial administration has yet completed several permits to start commercial operation of LRT Jakarta Kelapa Gading-Velodrome route despite Transportation Ministry had released technical, safety, and facilities and infrastructure recommendations.
