Panca Nugraha, Mataram – The National Police's Densus 88 antiterror squad on Saturday afternoon arrested six individuals on suspicion of terrorism in Bima, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

NTB Police chief Brig. Gen. Nana Sudjana confirmed the arrests but said he could not elaborate on the details of the ongoing investigation.

"It's true. They [the suspected terrorists] were arrested on Saturday afternoon in Bima," Nana said on Monday in the NTB capital, Mataram, and that the six suspected terrorists were being interrogated at the NTB Police Station.

Nana said investigators had yet to conclude whether or not the suspects were connected to a terror act that was to take place during the street rallies initially planned for May 22 – the original date on which the General Elections Commission (KPU) was to announce the 2019 General Elections results.

The KPU announced the final results of the vote recapitulation early on Tuesday, naming incumbent Joko "Jokowi" Widodo as the winner of the 2019 presidential election.

The police reportedly arrested this month 30 suspects affiliated to the Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD), an outlawed organization linked to Islamic State. The police claimed the suspects had planned an attack on May 22.

"I have no information about [the planned attack] yet, but the National Police spokesperson will soon explain," Nana added. (hol/swd)
