Ghina Ghaliya, Jakarta – The General Elections Commission (KPU) said it will extend voting day in Sydney this weekend although local organizers have been unable to identify the names of eligible voters who were prevented from voting on April 13.

"The local Overseas Elections Committee [PPLN] and Elections Supervisory Committee [Panwaslu] have agreed to the extension. It will probably be held on Saturday or Sunday," KPU head Arief Budiman said on Friday.

Hundreds of people were denied the right to vote at the Sydney Town Hall on April 13 because the PPLN closed the polling station at 6 p.m. as per KPU regulations.

As of Thursday, more than 49,000 people have signed a petition on change.org demanding a revote.

While the local Panwaslu and Elections Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) have recommended an extension, the KPU ordered local organizers to draw up a list of voters who were unable to cast their ballots, which is a hard thing to do because organizers did not keep track of the queueing voters.

Arief said the list request was later dropped. The KPU said a revote or extended voting could still be held until Saturday or 10 days after election day on April 17.
