Jakarta – Police arrested two suspected terrorists affiliated with the outlawed homegrown pro-Islamic State (IS) movement terror group Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) in separate locations over the weekend.
The police's antiterror task force apprehended the suspects, identified as Ro and P, in Lampung on Saturday and West Kalimantan on Sunday, respectively.
"We had been following the two suspects. They are affiliated with JAD," National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo said on Monday, as quoted by kompas.com.
He said that Ro had once told his family he wanted to carry out jihad against infidels.
He said it was suspected R was planning to attack the police. Several suspicious materials that could be used to make a homemade bomb were found at his house, Dedi added. "The two planned to act individually," he said.
JAD was declared a "forbidden organization" by the government last year. The leader of the organization, Aman Abdurrahman, was sentenced to death last year for his role in inciting others to commit terror attacks in the country.
JAD was allegedly responsible for multiple deadly bombings in East Java and the killing of six police officers at the Mobile Brigade headquarters (Mako Brimob) in Depok, West Java, last year. (das)
