Sultan Abdurrahman, Jakarta – Indonesian president Prabowo Subianto said his administration has recorded several achievements since taking office in October 2024, including progress toward self-sufficiency in key food commodities.

He made the statement during a grand shrimp harvest event in Kebumen, Central Java, on Saturday, May 23, 2026, noting that a number of government targets have begun to materialize within the first 19 months of his leadership.

"In 19 months, thank God, we have achieved a lot," Prabowo said.

He said Indonesia has now achieved self-sufficiency in rice and corn, adding that the country's overall food supply conditions remain relatively stable.

However, he acknowledged that self-sufficiency has not yet been reached across all commodities, particularly animal protein. "Our protein, eggs, chicken, and meat, are still not," he said.

Food self-sufficiency, including in meat production, has long been a recurring government target over the past decade, but progress has often been constrained by low productivity, limited livestock populations, and continued reliance on imports.

Prabowo said the government would continue to push productive programs to strengthen food independence, while also emphasizing the need to better manage national wealth so its benefits are more evenly distributed.

"We do not want our wealth to be continuously played by certain people, by certain countries," he said.

He made similar remarks during a plenary session of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, where he highlighted what he described as ongoing leakage in the management of national resources.

"We will do whatever is necessary to stop the leakage of the people's wealth of Indonesia," he said.

According to Prabowo, Indonesia's natural wealth must be optimized for the benefit of the broader public, rather than concentrated in the hands of a few.
