Celvin Moniaga Sipahutar, Jakarta – Indonesia is stepping up its push to become a regional poultry exporter after declaring self-sufficiency in chicken meat and eggs, with Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman on Tuesday flagging off 75 tons of poultry products to three countries.
The shipment, valued at Rp 3.3 billion ($195.3 thousand), was dispatched from the Agriculture Ministry complex in South Jakarta, marking what the government described as a concrete step to turn domestic surplus into export earnings.
The export cargo, transported in six container trucks, included chicken breast, eggs, nuggets, and sausages. The products were bound for Singapore, Japan, and Timor Leste.
Four companies participated in the shipment: Charoen Pokphand Indonesia, Japfa Comfeed Indonesia, Taat Indah Bersinar, and Malindo Food Delight, reflecting what the ministry called strong coordination between the government and industry players in expanding overseas markets.
"We are now self-sufficient in eggs, chicken, rice, and others. So we are pushing exports to more countries. We currently have 10 regular export destinations. Today we are sending eggs, chicken, and other poultry products to three countries," Amran said.
According to Agriculture Ministry data, total planned poultry exports are projected to reach 545 tons worth Rp 18.2 billion by March 31, 2026. The target forms part of broader efforts to accelerate livestock commodity exports, which the government views as highly competitive in the global market.
Amran said expanding poultry exports would directly contribute to foreign exchange earnings, job creation, and higher added value for domestic products.
"We have shipped to 10 countries, including Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Papua New Guinea, and Myanmar. We must continue to push these exports," he added.
The government sees poultry exports as a strategic move to maintain price stability at the farm level while improving business welfare. With rising production capacity and tighter quality standards, Indonesia is positioning itself to expand its footprint in both regional and global markets.
Amran emphasized that the administration is not only committed to safeguarding national food security but also to transforming the food sector into a key driver of export-based economic growth.
