Jakarta – The Labour Movement with the People (GEBRAK) held a demonstration in the National Monument (Monas) area of Central Jakarta on Wednesday December 10.
One of the demands taken up during the action to commemorate International Human Rights Day was the release of activists who were arrested during demonstrations at the end of last August.
"Free our comrades! Those who today are being detained are those who exercised their human rights to speak out", shouted a speaker from the command vehicle.
Based on CNN Indonesia's monitoring, the protesters entered Jalan Agus Salim at around 1.20 pm.
The demonstrators were united in wearing red clothing, carrying alliance flags and posters containing their demands. "Viva International Human Rights Day 2025, Release the Political Prisoners Immediately", read one of the banners.
A number of activists were arrested following the demonstrations at the end of August. They were arrested for allegedly inciting anarchist acts.
Currently they have the status of defendants and include Lokataru Foundation Director Delpedro Marhaen, Lokataru Foundation staff member Muzaffar Salim, Gejayan Calling activist Syahdan Husein and Riau University student and Student Challenge Alliance activist Khariq Anhar.
They will undergo their first court hearing on December 16.
"The initial court hearing is planned for December 16, 2025", said Central Jakarta District Court (PN) spokesperson Sunoto in a written statement on Wednesday. (mnf/isn)
