Yustinus Paat, Jakarta – Puan Maharani has indicated the possibility of a meeting between her mother, Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri, and President-elect Prabowo Subianto to discuss a potential coalition.
According to Puan, when Megawati and Prabowo meet, various topics will likely be discussed, including the possibility of forming a coalition. Megawati and Prabowo are no strangers to collaboration. In the 2009 presidential election, Megawati ran as a presidential candidate with Prabowo as her vice-presidential running mate.
"Maintaining good relations is important. There will be a meeting, God willing. Whether they will discuss such matters, we will just have to wait," Puan said at the Parliament complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday.
While she confirmed the possibility of coalition talks, Puan noted that it is unlikely the meeting will focus on cabinet positions in the Prabowo-Gibran administration. She believes discussing cabinet appointments at this stage is premature.
"It's still too early to discuss cabinet positions. We've been in regular communication. I frequently meet Prabowo at various events, so we're always in touch," she explained.
Puan also assured that the meeting between Prabowo and Megawati would take place before the presidential inauguration on October 20, 2024. However, she did not provide a specific date.
Earlier, Gerindra Party Secretary-General Ahmad Muzani mentioned the possibility of a meeting between Prabowo Subianto and Indonesia's fifth president, Megawati Soekarnoputri.
Muzani dismissed the notion that the meeting would involve inviting PDI-P into the Prabowo administration. He added that his recent encounter with Megawati did not involve political discussions, though both exchanged respectful greetings.
