Bella Evanglista Mikaputri, Jakarta – Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung has officially resigned from his post to run in the Jakarta gubernatorial race, according to a statement from Presidential Staff Ari Dwipayana on Friday.
"President Jokowi has received Mr. Pramono Anung's resignation letter, dated Sept. 2, 2024, requesting to step down as Cabinet Secretary, effective Sept. 22, 2024," Ari said in a text message.
He confirmed that President Jokowi will sign the decree for Pramono Anung's dismissal in line with the request.
Pramono Anung Aims to Transform Jakarta into a Global City
Ari added that the President respects the political rights and choices of all government officials.
"In principle, the President will approve the resignation. He supports the political rights of ministers and officials to run for regional head positions," Ari noted.
Pramono Anung emerged as a late candidate for the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) in the Jakarta gubernatorial race, with his nomination quietly announced by a party official following the candidate registration period opening on Aug. 27.
