Bella Evangelista, Jakarta – Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) executive Sudaryono dropped his plan to contest the Central Java gubernatorial election after he was sworn in by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo as the vice agriculture minister in Jakarta on Thursday.
"With this new assignment, I lose the [Gerindra] mandate to contest the Central Java election," Sudaryono said after the inauguration ceremony at the State Palace.
The head of Gerindra's Central Java chapter said he would focus on his cabinet job until the president retires in October.
"I will be focused on this more important job and therefore I cancel all my campaign for governorship," he added.
He said Gerindra has yet to announce a new gubernatorial candidate for Central Java.
Sudaryono became the vice minister to replace Harvick Hasnul Qolbi who has served since December 2020.
