Yustinus Paat, Jakarta – Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian revealed on Monday that 240 civil servants were found to have violated the neutrality principle during the presidential and legislative elections.

During a hearing with lawmakers, the minister disclosed that at least 450 civil servants were reported to the Election Oversight Body (Bawaslu) for the violation.

"Of that number, 240 were found guilty and handed disciplinary sanctions," Tito said, without providing details.

The vast majority of violations involved social media interactions or joining social media groups supporting certain candidates, Tito said.

Additionally, 12.9 percent of violators participated in political gatherings or campaigns, while 11.3 percent failed to show impartiality by campaigning for candidates through social media campaigns.

Furthermore, 10.8 percent of offenders arranged activities in support of candidates before, during, and after the elections.

"The last violation is becoming members or executives of a political party, involving 7.1 percent of offenders," Tito added.
