Yustinus Paat, Jakarta – Defense Minister and Gerindra Party Chairman, Prabowo Subianto, is on the verge of being announced as the victor of the 2024 Presidential Election.

According to the official tally released by the General Election Commission (KPU), Prabowo and his running mate, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, have secured 76,811,552 votes, or 58.46 percent of the total vote count, from the 34 provinces.

The Prabowo-Gibran ticket has emerged victorious in 32 out of the 34 provinces that have been tallied so far. The remaining four provinces – West Java, Maluku, Papua, and Papua Highlands – will conclude their vote tallying process today, Tuesday.

The KPU intends to promptly announce the vote count for each candidate of the 2024 Election today. According to the election law, it has until March 20 to announce the result. After that, Prabowo and Gibran, who is President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's oldest son, will be inaugurated on Oct. 20.

Gibran urged his supporters not to get too carried away with excitement ahead of the KPU's official announcement on Wednesday.

"Just wait for it, tomorrow. There's no need for excessive euphoria," he told reporters at Solo City Hall on Tuesday.

Gibran said that he would remain in Solo and carry out his duties as mayor as usual during the KPU announcement. He also mentioned that there were no plans yet to celebrate with Prabowo-Gibran's National Campaign Team or volunteers.

In the second position are the presidential and vice-presidential candidates Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin "Cak Imin" Iskandar, who have garnered 31,060,369 votes, or 23.64 percent. Anies-Cak Imin secured victories in two provinces, namely West Sumatra and Aceh.

Meanwhile, the presidential and vice-presidential candidates Ganjar Pranowo and Mohammad Mahfud MD, are in the last position with a total of 23,528,504 votes, or 17.91 percent.

The 34 provinces where the vote tally has been confirmed by the KPU include Yogyakarta, Gorontalo, Central Kalimantan, Bali, Lampung, Bangka Belitung, West Kalimantan, South Sumatra, Central Java, DKI Jakarta, South Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, Riau Islands, East Nusa Tenggara, Banten, North Kalimantan, East Java, Southeast Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, Riau, West Papua, North Sulawesi, and Bengkulu.

Additionally, West Sumatra, South Sulawesi, Aceh, West Nusa Tenggara, South Papua, Jambi, North Maluku, North Sumatra, Central Sulawesi, Central Papua, and Southwest Papua.

According to the election law, the winner of the presidential election is the candidate pair that obtains more than 50 percent of the total votes with at least 20 percent of the votes in each province scattered across more than half of the total provinces in Indonesia.

Thus, the requirements for a single-round presidential election are as follows: first, the presidential and vice-presidential candidates must receive more than 50 percent of the votes. Second, they must win at least half of the total provinces in Indonesia, which means winning at least 20 out of 38 provinces.
