Bambang Pribadi, Jakarta – A group of people who call themselves the Civil Society Group Concerned with Democracy and Elections held a demonstration in front of the General Election Commission (KPU) building in Jakarta, on Friday, February 16, 2024, protesting the elections.
The protesters carried posters and banners with words accusing President Joko Widodo of rigging the votes. Fritz Alor Boy, chairman of the Anies for Indonesia's President Volunteers' group, accused the president of committing massive, structured, and systematic fraud.
"The people are rising up against the KPU, the people are rising up against the damaged democracy created by the Jokowi regime. This is just a warm-up," he said.
According to him, the demonstration will not stop here. He said he would invite students to take to the streets with him. "Not just here, maybe in several places too," he said.
The protest at KPU began around 2:00 PM Jakarta time. The Imam Bonjol Road in Central Jakarta had to be closed during the demonstration, and was not reopened until around 5:30 PM.
Previously, KPU chairman Hasyim Asy'ari claimed that he received many reports questioning the preliminary vote count results, which indicated differences between the numbers shown in the C forms (plano) and the display of vote results in Sirekap.
"There are many WhatsApp messages sent to us and posts on social media, particularly about the differences between the C Form results and Sirekap results," Hasyim told reporters at the KPU Media Center on Thursday, February 15, 2024.
