Mutia Yuantisya, Jakarta – Political observer and Executive Director of the Institute for Democracy & Strategic Affairs (Indostrategic) Ahmad Khoirul Umam warned the teams of Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md.
According to Umam, were they planning to dispute the election results, they must refer to Article 286 of the Election Law No. 7/2017.
They must also refer to the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) regulations regarding allegations of structured, systematic, and massive election violations.
Umam said that the two rivals of Prabowo-Gibran, the leading pair, must present adequate data, information, and evidence of a massive and systematic election violation in 50 percent of the provinces in Indonesia.
"It is no easy feat to present evidence as massive and as valid as required," Umam said on Wednesday, Feb. 14.
Reflecting on the quick count results, the 2024 presidential election is different from previous elections in that the winning rate was below pre-election surveys. Umam explained that the number was actually much higher than the surveys indicated.
Prabowo-Gibran, based on the quick count results, even got a higher winning rate than current President Jokowi in the previous election with 59-60 percent. In 2019, Jokowi only led with 55 percent over Prabowo.
For these reasons, Umam encouraged Anies-Muhaimin and Ganjar-Mahfud to accept their loss with grace. "The figures confirm that this would be a one-round election," said Umam.
